What is Lip Augmentation?

All of us will experience lip thinning as we age, while some of us are born with naturally thinner lips. This can cause dissatisfaction over time and make you feel unhappy with your appearance when you glance in the mirror.

Lip augmentation is one way you can address this by giving you plumper, fuller lips. Augmentation means to make part of your body bigger – in this case, your lips. There are two options to augment the lips once they’ve thinned out: injectable dermal fillers and surgery. Lip augmentation via injection is the most common type. A dermal filler can be injected directly into your lips and around your mouth. If you would like longer-lasting or permanent results, you can consider procedures such as fat transfer or surgery for tissue removal.

Types of Lip Augmentation

During an initial consultation for lip augmentation, patients can discuss their treatment goals, learn about the range of solutions we offer, and get answers to any questions they may have.

Lip augmentation patients will generally start by discussing their care with our medical spa. If a surgical solution is a better fit, we will refer them to one of our experienced plastic surgeons.

There are several different options for you to consider. The lip augmentation treatment we recommend will depend on the areas you want to improve. A description of some of these options follows.

Botox for Lines and Wrinkles

Botox is one of the world’s most popular injectable treatments for signs of aging. It temporarily weakens the muscles that activate facial wrinkles, softening their appearance. Botox can be a great option if you are interested in reducing lines around your lips. Patients can expect gentle and expert care with Botox and with any injectable treatment. Dermal Fillers

Renuance’s medical spa uses both the Júvederm and Restylane families of dermal fillers for lip augmentation. With these injectable products, we can plump up thin lips and fill in facial lines. Dermal fillers can be an excellent option if you are interested in fast-acting improvement that will last for a year or two. Natural Fat Injection

Natural fat offers many of the same advantages as dermal fillers. Unlike with dermal fillers, however, the aesthetic benefits of injecting fat should be permanent. The surgeon will then inject the fat to add fullness to your lips or to fill in facial lines and wrinkles.

Tissue Excision

As you age, you may see the distance between the bottom of your nose and the top of your upper lip increasing. A tissue excision surgery will remove some of the excess skin, bringing the lip up to its younger position.

Recovery from Lip Augmentation

Temecula patients can go home immediately after their visit. Icing the area will reduce swelling and bruising, which should subside after a day or two.

If you are having surgery with Renuance, your consultation and procedure will be on different days. Our surgeons typically conduct lip augmentation procedures with patients under IV sedation or general anesthesia. After recovery of about two weeks, swelling should subside, and you should be able to enjoy the results of your procedure: a fuller pout, smoother skin, and a more youthful appearance.

How much does lip augmentation cost?

The price for lip augmentation depends on how much fuller you want your lips, which can mean extra injections. This will affect the overall cost of your procedure. The injections come with lidocaine in them, which is a numbing agent. This helps ease discomfort from the injections. Injectables, including Juvéderm or Voluma, are non-surgical cosmetic options that can plump up your lips for up to 6 months per session. For permanent results, Temecula patients may have a very small amount of their fat removed through liposuction, then have that fat processed and injected into their lips.
